Roku Dominated Amazon Last Quarter

While Amazon likes everyone to believe they are an equal to Roku, the latest numbers paint a different picture

Covina reported Roku beat out Amazon in overall viewing screen time. This means that even though they may have sold an equal number of devices, most Roku users use their devices more to stream legal measurable content than on Fire TV. Which does not give us the entire picture.

Since most people don't use an Amazon Fire TV to stream measurable legal content and instead buy them because they can side load Android apps and mainly because Fire TV Sticks cost less. Many users will use their Fire TV to stream content from Kodi or other apps, not in available in the Google Play or Roku Channel store.

Since Roku is more restrictive, and there is no way to use a Roku with Kodi or other Android apps designed to watch Free TV from less than legal sources. Had they added this measurement to the equation, the outcome would no doubt have looked much different.

There are still ways to watch this content on Roku, if you use AirPlay, or Chromecast to cast content to your Roku from the Internet. Have a look at this free web app, that will let you watch over a hundred fifty online streaming sites, directly on your Roku from a web browser.
