Bob Ross was a poor man who learned to perm his own hair into a distinctive afro, which became his trademark.
After serving 20 years in the military, he retired as a Master Sergeant and swore to never raise his voice again. He taught himself how to paint landscapes and mountains while in Alaska and later sold his paintings on the side. He was asked to teach his technique, which he learned from William Alexander through the wet-on-wet method. Bob became famous for his show "The Joy of Painting," which he later sold on QVC. He passed away from lymphoma at the age of 52. He left behind a legacy of creating happiness through his art and spreading joy to all who watched his show. He never made mistakes, only "happy accidents." His catchphrase at the end of each episode was "happy painting, and God bless, my friend."
