The Roku Scam Continues and This Aspect is Troubling

Post by Admin » Fri Apr 09, 2021 8:50 am

It's sad to hear about the ongoing Roku scam and the number of good people being scammed out of a sizeable sum of money after buying a new Roku.

We have heard multiple stories now of the scammers phone numbers popping up on the screen on new Roku models. Also, we have heard stories of people seen in places like Walmart with a shopping cart full of Roku streamers.

There are two possibilities. First the scammers can buy carts full of Roku streamers from various stores, then take them home and insert their phone numbers where it pops up on the screen. Although, this would take an intimate knowledge of the software and how to hack past security of the Roku software itself.

Or someone currently working at a Roku factory in China could be in on the scam and is putting the scammers fake support numbers into the Roku software before these streamers even leave the factory.

Maybe Roku could do some random audits of new streamers from every factory to determine that this isn't happening.

More needs to be done to shut these scammers down for good. And what better way to do so than to perform random audits and adding bold warning screens on first boot that says, "Never give out your credit card or Roku password to any Roku support site to activate your new Roku." Roku Activation is FREE!

Learn More about how this Roku activation scam tricks new Roku owners into forking over hard earned cash.
