Nvidia Shield TV Owners Are Livid About the Banner Ads in Android TV.

The explosion of ads in smart devices is really getting on people's nerves.

Here are some ways to stop the ads on a Nvidia SHIELD and other Android devices besides connecting a computer to a TV and making it your main streaming device. Which apparently is still widely in use by many cord cutters.

Don't blame Nvidia. These ads are being shoved down our throats by Goggle which owns the Android Operating system. Another reason to break up big tech and keep them from buying all the great smaller tech companies and screwing them up.

Nvidia really has no choice unless they adopt a different operating system for their media streamers.

With the recent Home Screen update on the Nvidia SHIELD, many users are complaining because now the top third of the screen is now home to a banner to advertises shows and other content. Channels are advertising shows you may not even subscribe to.

So here are some ways to fix this annoying new Google feature if you can even call it that.

Use a Custom Launcher on the Nvidia SHIELD

A custom launcher is a great way to disable the display advertising on that take up a large part of the new home screen. There are a few setting that need to be tweaked than you can have full control of your home screen by installing a new app launcher.

Follow this guide on TechDoctor.UK for a very nice step-by-step tutorial. And say bye-bye to advertisements on your Nvidia SHIELD home screen.

Watch the video tutorial below to take back control of your Nvidia SHIELD

Plan B: A new launcher named FLauncher is an open source project which can be downloaded and installed from Google Play.

Plan C - If you don't want to go through the trouble of installing a custom launcher, just perform the steps in the video below to get your old home screen back.

Google may have gotten wise to this method because anytime you start Google Play Services back up it automatically shows the ad banner back at the top of the screen. So if this bugs you and you like the clean look with just your apps, the workaround is to keep Google Play Services disabled, and only enable and restart your SHIELD if you need to use it to install apps from Google Play Store.

Since most SHIELD owners hardly ever use the Google Play Store, and side load apks that have been modded to remove ads, this is not as big a problem as one would think. And enjoying the nice clean SHIELD Home screen minus the big Fire TV like banner ads makes it worth the small inconvenience to turn on Google Play Services whenever needed. Plus, with this disabled you free up extra memory and have faster performance from the apps you actually use on the SHIELD.

Plan D - The AppleTV is still an ad-free media streamer. Many users fed up with the ads on Google Android TV are switching to Apple TVs instead. While it's a nice platform, if you already own a SHIELD why not just do the Launcher upgrade or roll back the home screen and keep enjoying a great Android streamer minus the ads.
