Amazon may not want the HBO Max channel on their platform until they can exhort higher fees from HBO, but that does not mean you can't watch it.
Sideloading is a way to install content on a Fire TV that bypasses Amazon's app store. You can download any apk and install it without Amazon's permission.
Amazon's Fire TV uses Android for their operating system, so it's easy to add Android apps that open up your Fire TV and Fire Stick to ton's more content than what Amazon would like you to use.
Sideloading Instructions for HBO Max for Fire TV
Step 1. Remove HBO Now if it's already on your Fire TV
Go to SETTINGS > APPS > MANAGE INSTALLED APPLICATIONS.
From the list, choose HBO Now then UNINSTALL.

Step 2. Turn On Sideloading on a Fire TV
This will allow you to install apps from untrusted sources on a Fire TV. When sideloading apks, that are untrusted, there is always the potential to add an app that may contain malware. We recommend first scanning these apps with an online virus scanner.
To enable sideloading from untrusted sources go to SETTINGS > APPLICATIONS > MY FIRE TV > DEVELOPER OPTIONS
Click on "Apps from Unknown Sources" and make sure that it is turned on.

Step 3. Get the Downloader App
Either search for it on your Fire TV or ask Alexa to "Install Downloader App." Before it can be installed you must choose ALLOW to the prompt that asks for the app to: "Access photos, media, and files on your device.
Step 4. Download HBO Max With Downloader
