Google's Sabrina to Take on Roku and Amazon's Fire TV

Google is working hard on a replacement for it Chromecast dongle.

Sabrina is an Android TV media streamer currently being beta tested by Google. When it's released, they hope to put a dent in Roku and Amazon's market share with a viable alternative of their own.

It will be based on their Android TV operating system, the same OS that powers the Nvidia SHIELD. And sold at a price point that will put it at a competitive advantage against the SHIELD and place it squarely in line to compete against both Roku and Amazon's lower cost media streamers. It's rumored to cost under $80.

Chromecast their current streaming dongle, never really caught on all that much. Partially because you needed to use a phone to control it rather than a real remote.

Learning from their past mistake, Google has included a remote with Sabrina. And along with the awesome Android TV OS which is very open to installing popular Android apps like Kodi, Cyberflix and more. It just may prove to be a huge hit.

One place where it will definitely win out is by making apps like NBC Peacock available right off the bat. The free streaming service is MIA from both Roku and Amazon's streamers.

If Google wanted to, it could rub a little salt in this sore spot, by making an extended free trial to the premium NBC Peacock streaming service available. Much like Apple did with their Apple TV+. New customers who purchase a Sabrina Android TV media player could be eligible for a free extended 6 month trial to Peacock.

Bet this would turn some heads and make people take notice. Now we just need to wait for them to release it. Hopefully it will be here sooner than later. Maybe in time for the Holiday shopping season which is just around the corner.
