DON'T PAY EXTRA FOR A FIRE TV JAILBROKEN UNLOCKED AND FULLY LOADED

When you see an ad from someone wanting to sell a Jailbroken Unlocked Fire TV, save yourself some money and unlock it yourself.

First, the term Jailbroken really has nothing to do with a Fire TV, and unlocking it is so easy a 3rd grader could probably do it in a snap.

Jailbroken is a leftover Apple TV or Apple iPhone term which means loading another firmware onto the device that bypasses their walled garden. And it lets you use apps which offer content that for sure would be kicked out of the Apple Store.

With a Fire TV, you are not changing the firmware, instead it's just a matter of turning on and off a couple of setting that allow unsupported apps to be installed on the device.

The reason many users like to do this, is because like just like Apple, Amazon likes to restrict the apps offered in their app store.

Once you have unlocked a Fire TV, you can install apps like Aquarium and others that can access full movies and TV shows over the Internet. But these shows often come from pirate sources, and Amazon has them blocked from their store for this reason.

To sideload apps on a Fire TV you only need to follow a few simple steps which are outlined below.

1. To enable side loading on a Fire TV or Fire TV Stick go to the Home Screen on your Fire TV and click the Settings button in the top right menu of the screen.

2. In the Settings window, choose the My Fire TV icon. It's between Preferences and Accessibility.

3. From the next window that opens, choose Developer options.

4. Now switch on both ADB Debugging, and Unknown Sources. The default is Off but they should both say ON. Apps from Unknown sources lets you download apps that are outside the Amazon store. When turning this on a popup warning turns on. Click the orange Turn On button to continue.

5. After you enabled Apps from Unknown sources it takes you back to Settings. From there, choose Preferences, then Privacy settings to enable a setting that keeps Amazon from knowing what you download and is used on your Fire TV.

Under the Privacy menu you want to turn OFF both these settings:

1. Device Usage Data
2. Collect App Usage Data

5. Then click the back button and it will take you back to Preferences. And from the click Data Monitoring. In the next screen Turn OFF Data Monitoring.

Now that we've tweaked everything that needs to be changed on the Fire TV. It's time to add some sideloading goodness in the form of a Downloader app, which lets you download all those fun little apps that turn a Fire TV from mild to wild.

To Add the Downloader App Do This:

1. From the Home Screen on the Fire TV or Fire TV Stick click Search and from the onscreen keyboard type in Downloader. The icon looks like this.

2. Once you click the icon, choose Download, then click Allow from the pop-up, and then OK.

3. Open the Downloader app settings menu, and enable Javascript.

Now you can use the Downloader app as you would a Web browser, and from the address bar you can type the URL of apps you wish to download.

If you wish to install Kodi on your fire TV, type the following link into your Downloader App address bar.

Code: Select all

Once it's finished downloading, you can also click Install to install it right from within the Downloader app.

After you launch Kodi, it comes up rather plain and does not contain any content, to watch movies and shows, you will need to add repositories otherwise known as repos.

Congratulations, you just fully unlocked a Fire TV or Fire TV Stick.

If you install standalone apps like Aquarium, then they are fully self-contained and no further steps are necessary to watch TV. To find some great apps to download to your Fire TV, Click here.
