Recently Quick UDP Internet Connections (QUIC) was just approved by the Internet Engineering Taskforce (IETF)

It took eight years to get through the development and certification for the new RFC 9000 standard. It's poised to deliver better and more efficient networking. With new protocols for the video industry, it will help to reduce latency in streaming video apps.
QUIC's secondary goals include reduced connection and transport latency, and bandwidth estimation in each direction to avoid congestion. It also moves congestion control algorithms into the user space at both endpoints, rather than the kernel space, which it is claimed will allow these algorithms to improve more rapidly. Additionally, the protocol can be extended with forward error correction (FEC) to further improve performance when errors are expected, and this is seen as the next step in the protocol's evolution.
With new transport protocols, SRT and RIST which use a ‘fire and forget’ UDP as a basic protocol which is an improvement upon the latency added when using TCP. Which before needed connections to first be established and continually reconfirmed. Google first began experimenting with QUIC back in 2013, and this should make streaming TV much more efficient.
