New Apple TV Released - Not Much Has Changed Except for a Nicer Remote

Apple Announced A New Apple TV 4K will Be Available Soon. With a slightly faster processor and a much nicer remote.

They will offer two Apple TV models both basically the same with the only difference between them is storage capacity. The 32GB Apple TV with a new Siri Remote will cost $149 and their 64GB model is $199.

The A12Bionic has some nice improvements over the previous model A10 CPU. It will have a sharper image and support HDR (High Dynamic Range) and Dolby Vision video. This allows fast-moving action at 60 frames per second (fps) to play more smoothly and appear more lifelike than ever before.

The biggest change will come with the remote itself. It will have tactile buttons, and an easier way to navigate than the prior model. The remote will be available as a separate purchase for $59. So anyone that does not feel like upgrading, but would still like to use the newer remote can do so without needing to buy a new Apple TV.

If you own the last 4K Apple TV model before this one, and it still works, chances are you won't see much benefit to upgrading unless you want the newer remote. But if you use a universal remote, then you can probably get several more years of use from the last model. Learn more about the Apple TV on Apple's Newsroom
