Post by Admin » Fri May 14, 2021 5:18 pm

Currently, Apple only offers high quality and reduced data setting for playing Apple Music. But soon an exciting new option, Apple Lossless will appear on both iOS starting at version 14.6 and for Android devices.

Lossless audio files preserve every detail of the original file. Turning this on will consume significantly more data.

Lossless audio files use significantly more space on your device. 10 GB of space could store approximately: 3000 songs at high quality, 1000 songs with lossless, and 200 songs with hi-res lossless .

Lossless streaming will consume significantly more data. A 3-minute song will be approximately: 1.5 MB with high efficiency- 6 MB with high quality at 256 kbps- 36 MB with lossless at 24-bit/48 kHz- 145 MB with hi-res lossless at 24-bit/192 kHz Support varies and depends on song availability, network conditions, and connected speaker or headphone capability.

Benefits of Apple Lossless Music Files

Besides listening to music that has more details, although some may not really notice depending on the audio equipment it's played on. One enormous advantage to lossless audio is you have a copy that is not lacking any details.

This means you can save it or archive your music for later use in full fidelity. Mp3 while smaller, is compressed and will not provide the same quality as lossless audio files. But the trade off there is mp3s are one third as small as a lossless file. So while you gain on bandwidth and storage with lossy files, the audio quality will never be the same as the orginal copy.

For most people listening to music through ear pods on their iPhone or Android phone, you won't notice the improved sound quality. But if you want to stream music files on a higher end audio system, the difference in sound quality between lossy and lossless audio is stunning.
