Beware of This eBay Scam

It's that special time of the year where many cord-cutters turn to eBay to sell older streaming TV equipment to buy something new for the Holidays.
These scammers also know this and they have children to buy Christmas presents for so they are working extra hard to try and cheat you out of your hard-earned money.
One scam we came across recently on eBay is when you sell something, you immediately get an email from an eBay user explaining that they won your auction and would like the item shipped to a friend's to address as a gift.
Most people are trusting by nature and would probably comply. But be careful because the person sending you the email was actually not the person that won the auction. And if you send it off to an address not listed under the winning bidder's account, YOU and not eBay will be on the hook for the value of the item.
Because eBay specifically states that items shipped to addresses, not listed as the official buyer's home address are not covered under eBay protection.
So be careful out there, the scammers will send out hundreds of emails a day. Often from an account with zero feedback which is quickly shut down when they are reported or discovered to be doing this by eBay.
