It’s not easy to say goodbye to a 12-year relationship. But when Netflix raised the monthly price of its ad-free tier from $15.49 to $17.99 earlier this year ($10 more than the $8 I started with), it was finally time to downgrade to the $7.99 ad-supported tier.
As ads started to interrupt my Netflix viewing, a realization hit. I’ve slowly been pushed to the ad-based tiers of every other streaming service as well. Paramount+, Peacock, and Disney+ have all made it prohibitively expensive to view their content without commercials, while also being overly aggressive in promoting their ad tiers.
For example, now through March 30, you can get a Disney+ and Hulu bundle with ads for one year at $2.99 per month. That's hard to resist when that same ad-riddled bundle (Disney Bundle Duo Basic) normally costs $11/month. Or $20/month if you want both without ads.
