Quibi is History, The Wall Street Journal reports

Quibi the short form video streaming service that could not have possibly launched at a worse time is shutting their doors after only being in business for a short 6/months.

Guess that's what happens when trying to sell a streaming TV service mobile users would appreciate during the worst Pandemic shut down in our countries history. With millions of cord cutters stuck at home and binge-watching full seasons of shows from Netflix, Hulu and others. Short form video clips, were not really high in demand.

Their prices while not awful, $4.99 with ads or $7.99 without ads was not the problem. It was more that subscribers who were used to binging hour long shows or two hour movies could not see the value in “quick bite” videos which only ran 10 minutes or less.

This was probably the biggest drawback to Quibi because their price should have reflected this and maybe cost $2.50 with ads and $5.00 without. This may have given Quibi a wider audience who would have been more willing to accept short from videos. At a reduced cost this may have been a more enticing value.

Had Quibi launched a year or two later, maybe their different approach to a streaming TV service would have gained more traction. But now it, will end up on the streaming TV scrapheap where it joins other streaming services that failed to get enough subscribers like PS Vue.

As far as their quick bite videos, maybe Netflix can pick up their inventory and offer a Netflix Lite Streaming service for $5/month. There should be a market for that if not now maybe eventually. If you have a subscription, read the full article on the WSJ
