Want to Stop Giving Your ISP an Extra $150/Year?

Post by Admin » Fri May 01, 2020 6:23 pm

Many major ISPs want to rent their customers a router and these fees may not seem like all that much each month. But over a years time they can average close to $150.

To make matter worse, a typical high quality router can be found anywhere from $65-$90 that is every bit as good. And they can last for years.

Setting up a router on your home networks is really not that hard. Especially, if you follow the instructions. To access the settings most all routers make you enter an address in your web browser address bar. (Not Google)

Then the important things to change are the default password and set up a password protected Wi-Fi account. Don't make your password too easy, otherwise your neighbor Buba, might try to decrypt it and use your Internet account to get some free Wi-Fi to watch porn movies online.

When securing your home network and setting up your password, you will have several options to choose from.

WEP is older and easier to hack into. So don't choose this option.
WPA has improved security, but is also now easier to hack into.
WPA2 is currently the safest choice of the three and you should always choose this option.

When asked to choose between TKIP or AES encryption, be sure to pick AES for WPA2. It's the most secure.

Also, when creating a password, don't use a simple word rather use a passphrase with as many letters, caps, numbers and unique symbols as possible.

One example of a good passphrase is: myAddressSpelledBackwardsis#4321!

This will take much longer for anyone to try to crack, and they will most likely move on to your Neighbor Sue who used her dogs name Fido as her password.

So if you would like to save yourself an extra $100 to $150 a year. Stop renting your Router and buy one. Then you can use that extra money saved and sign-up for your favorite streaming TV service and watch a lot more content instead.
