A nonprofit Locast which has been sued by some of America’s largest media companies just expanded its free TV service to the Tampa Bay area.

Locast is now offering 45 local broadcast channels for residents living in the region. And it can be watched either from its app, Roku channel or on their website at locast.org.

From this service, you can access the same channels you would normally receive for free from an over the air antenna.
This brings those that can't receive their local affiliates like CBS, PBS, NBC, ABC and FOX an alternative way to tune into these free channels.

They were sued by the content providers because they are not authorized to retransmit these signals. The case is pending the outcome of the trial, but unlike Aereo which was also sued and lost, Locast is attempting to get around this by claiming to be a not for profit entity.

"Under federal law, broadcast stations must provide their signals free to the public, making network programming easily available through the use of an antenna."

A counter lawsuit was also filed by Locast against the big networks. Read more details here

But if you watch their channel for any length of time, you will be constantly nagged and hounded for a donation. And only by paying Locast a minimum $5/month can you make this go nag screen go away.
