Warner Media just announced that beginning in 2021, they will be bringing movies that are released on the same day to HBO Max. This has many industry insiders terrified. Especially theater owners who are struggling now like never before.
But this has not phased Warner media because they feel COVID will continue to drag down Theater ticket sales, at least for the first 6-months of 2021.
Some have said COVID is only an excuse, and the real reason for this market-changing shakeup is because they are trying to gain traction for their HBO Max streaming service.
Even so, this could be precedent-setting, and may well forever change the long delay from when a movie is released and made more widely available to cord-cutters and TV streamers.
