
Amazon might be preparing to roll out a major update of its Fire TV operating system. The company, whose streaming devices and smart TVs all use the Fire TV OS, has long built that system on Android tech, but it appears it could be ready to move away from that arrangement. As first reported by Janko Roettgers in his Lowpass newsletter, Amazon appears to be preparing to launch its own, in-house streaming operating system named Vega.
The new Vega OS is a Linux-based system that Amazon has been developing for some time. The first report of its creation leaked out in late 2023, and in early 2024, Amazon posted a job opening for an engineer to help it implement the new OS.
